Although not mentioned in Tolkien lore there must have been some sort of trade routes from the Eastern lands to the Shire. In The Hobbit they speak of drinking coffee & tea, highly unlikely to be cultivated in those parts. Most likely traders came by sea (not too far from The Shire) and certain Hobbit traders (Tooks, most likely) brought it inland, so likely there was fairly regular contact between Eastern lands and The Shire.

Question: could Smaug even hurt a Balrog? We know the Dwarves at their mightiest loaded on Mythril could not harm Durin's Bane, whereas Gandalf managed to kill him striking him with Glamdring, which was a sword dating of the 1st age and, at least to some extent, enchanted. I'm leaned to believe the Balrogs cannot be slain with mundane weapons, which includes natural weapons such as a dragon's claws and teeth.

The sons of Elrond should be on equal footing to their sister Arwen at least. Everything that is true for Arwen's potential power is true for Elladan and Elrohir as well, except the twins have actual feats that they can hang their hats on. They scouted ahead for the Fellowship before they left Rivendell and were sent on a secret errand by their father . They took the Paths of the Dead and then fought at Pelagrir, the Pelennor Fields, and the Black Gate. They should definitely be higher. Also, I'd put Legolas ahead of Gimli for sure and possibly on the A tier since he shot down a Nazul on a Fell Beast on the voyage down the Anduin.

Man some of the whiners in these comments are mad their fav character didnt rank higher. Its a tier list based on one persons interpretation of the strength of the characters, so shush. Take it for what it is and if you dont agree make your own tier list instead of grilling some dude that works hard to put content out to entertain his crowd. You can not agree, but to straight grill this man and tell him he did it wrong, is absurd. This is all his opinion, and if you dont like it, write your little feelings down on a piece of paper, ball it up, and throw it away because if you want to be rude then noone cares bro.

Not only the sea longing instilled in the voices of the gulls, possibly by Osse & Ulmo themselves, but a world weariness due to the passing of friends & loved ones. However the elves knew immortality was an illusion, the spirits given solace & rest in the halls of Mandos would in time be sent back to the world like Glofindel or upon the Dagor Bragorlach at the ultimate end of things in Arda. Though even with this knowledge, the elves must have been wistful or even jealous of Illuvatar's gift to men, oneness with the flame imperishable upon their demise. Ar Pharazon & the fallen Numenorians in their lost faith & envy of elven immortality must have been regarded with wry disbelief at their spurning of their great gift. The yearning for the blessing of being in the presence of their god must have made the eons pass so slowly, watching their human friends take the expressway to heaven.

The Ring conferred immortality, and Aragorn with the Ring would be unable to resist the temptation to be immortal. He may start his reign with the intention of passing the Ring to his son. But as the time approached for him to pass his ring to his son and die, he would procrastinate. Eventually his son(s) would rebel against King Aragorn/Elessar and try to take the Ring. If they failed he would kill them. Otherwise his son /sons would die of old age waiting for the ring to come to them. Aragorn would last for centuries before he became a wraith, but eventually it would happen.

I feel if they were a creation of Morgoth, Sauron would at the very least know of them, even if they were older than him. I think they are indeed like Ungoliant, and my theory for both would be that they represent a sort of natural evil and darkness, as opposed to the "corrupted goodness" evil of Morgoth and Sauron

5:40 I think the power scaling in his works varies depending on the will *at the moment* of the characters. Like, when Fingolfin fought a literal god, the most powerful of all the gods, and held his own... that was sheer will that kept him alive. For a fleeting moment there, a mere elf was as mighty as Tulkas himself.

I agree with you on the coin purse, i highly doubt such a thing existed, but not on Gurthang. I understand the thought of it not truly being able to speak, but i like to think that it had some sentience similar to the one ring and the silmarils. Eöl is a very powerful and strange elf, known to be extremely skillful with enchantments and i think its entirely possible he could make a sword that was enchanted and had some ability to speak. I also believe Anguriel had the same sentiance as Gurthang, but it wasn't recorded as the sword itself didn't play as much of a role in any tale as Gurthang

Is it weird that I find this video oddly but strongly emotional? I'm sure things wouldn't have been easy for this new 'Fellowship', but we already know so much of the misery, sadness, hatred, hurt, and despair the canon Fellowship faced, among other things, and although goodness triumphed, it came at a heavy cost. The imagined goodness of one really important character changed so much, and wiped so much sadness and darkness away, and it makes you think, isn't that what's happening all around us now in reality? Aren't we suffering due to the small and big selfish actions of people around us and the top? What about our selfish actions? When have we ourselves abandoned reason for madness? What misery have our own choices inflicted upon others around us? All because we wanted to come out on top, or did things because we thought the other was going to do the same to us if given the chance? Wasn't that Saruman's primary push towards the darkness, his suspicion and jealousy of Gandalf? What if we believed the best of others too? This video caught me in such a curious maelstrom of nostalgia, melancholy, inward assessment, and sadness, for all that we have already lost due to our selfishness, and all the goodness we're going to lose in the future, all because we just can't seem to care about others more than ourselves.

The Numenor narrative is the least interesting of the 2nd Age, and the source of the worst plot holes and contradictions. Slaughtering a nation and breaking the shape of the world is a pretty big over reaction, when the powers of the west could have just sunk the boats. Then, after the tsunami and genocide, 9 ships arrive at middle earth, and within a few decades 4 cities are created. Go figure

It would be cool if Arwen became the dark lord. As Aragorn lived a long time, after his death Arwen could have see how quickly and easily men could be corrupted and placed little value on history that happened so long ago. It would have been interesting if one of Arwen and Aragorn's children was what caused her to become evil. I know she only lived a year or so after Aragorn died, and had three children (2 being daughters). If a Cain and Abel type scenario had happened with the children despite all the good surrounding them being raised in a time where good in men flourished, would have been a good story, and is likely the last person (or people) anyone would suspect that would turn towards evil.

Thank you. This is very helpful and informative. The Valar and Maiar are very interesting, being a combination of angels and gods. The Creator Eru is obviously by far the most powerful, since he’s basically the creator of all, including the Ainur (the Valar and Maiar alike.) With everything said and done, I believe Sauron was a better Dark Lord than Melkor. Although Melkor was a Valar and more powerful, he was ultimately much more reckless and less intelligent than Sauron. Sauron was a master manipulator, and what he lacked in power he made up with intelligence and cunning. What’s so unfortunate is that although the Ainur (both the Valar and Maiar) can never truly die, their spirits can be diminished to such a degree that they can no longer interact with the physical world in any way. This happens with Sauron and Saruman, and to a degree Melkor. They basically used up all their power, and were essentially reduced to powerless, formless, untouchable and invisible ghosts that could do nothing but wonder until the end of time. They were forever bound to the world, but could no longer have any control over what took place in it. A fate worse than death, if you ask me.

I just got back from watching all three movies in theaters for the first time. The first movie came out when I was 3, so I'm thankful my local theater put them on for an occasion. I'm quite morose and don't know what to do with myself, I never want it to be over :( but this channel has always felt like an extension of Tolkien whether I'm referencing vids while reading the books or rewatching the movies. Thanks for being here and keeping the fantasy alive!
